The star has donated the entirety of his £25,000 award cash to the trust for venues, which works to protect the UK's grassroots live music spots.

He was awarded the prize on October 16 as his new release the album was named the top album of the past year.

He has opted to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the vital role grassroots venues had in his beginning days.

"I would not have achieved what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the performances I performed around the region, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," stated the artist. "These venues are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these locations have permanently closed – about one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Recently, major artists such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by applying a small levy to their admission fees, which supports smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also took part, collecting more than £100,000 on his recent tour to help numerous local spots across the UK.

The donation assisted locations that were dealing with imminent closure due to difficulties caused by water damage, blazes and personal losses, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and sound issues.

Some locations received monetary aid in improving amenities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted artists and concertgoers.

"The idea that funds from shows in big venues supports the smaller venues, where it begins for artists like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has commented.

Fender is among several artists to donate his honor funds to worthy causes.

Back when the band earned the award in the year 1996 for their record Different Class, lead singer the singer announced that the band would donate their winnings to the charity War Child.

During 2002, musician she shared her prize across a few charities, like the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also contributed a thousand pounds to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I did gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked new equipment," she shared with a publication.

Previously, the band donated their prize money to the community center that supported their group, in addition to other local music groups.

And 1994 winners they donated their prize to a MS organization after a close contact was found to have the disease.

"Winning was ample," stated singer Heather Small. "The money was the extra but we could do without the cherry, because we had the honor. So our success affected another person's life."

Recently, the MVT announced it had rescued a couple of local spots in south-east England, by bringing them into community ownership.

One venue in the city and the second in the city were purchased under the public acquisition program, which is backed by Arts Council England and music fans who buy "ownership units" in the venues.
